Country Line Dancing & Sister Fun!: Catch Up with Katie

Hi, my name is Katie Davis! I am a second-year student studying Business Data Analytics,  and I am also a part of Barrett, the Honors College. I previously served as the Archivist, and I am currently the Leadership Engagement Specialist. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and I have truly found my second home through Alpha Delta Pi.

Last year, traveling more than 1000 miles from home, I was ecstatic to not only go to college but also to join the Greek life community. After going through formal recruitment in the Fall of 2019, I ran home to Alpha Delta Pi. Especially since I came from out of state, these girls not only became my sisters but also my second family. My big gives the best advice, and I look up to the older members as mentors and sources of inspiration. These girls are my friends, study buddies, and even a fellow executive line master of the Country Line Dancing Club.

My sorority sister, Jacqueline Foley, and I founded the Country Line Dancing Club at Arizona State University in January 2021. In the Fall 2020 semester, Jacqueline and I would go line dancing every Friday night. It became our favorite activity and made our weeks much more exciting. Even throughout the week we practiced the various line dances and would wear our cowboy boots around the dorm. Although ASU is one of the biggest universities and has over a thousand clubs, there was no country line dancing club; therefore, we decided to change that. We wanted to create the opportunity for students to learn to country line dance with fellow Sun Devils. Forming the Country Line Dancing Club has been a true sister bonding experience from writing the Constitution, creating the budget and semester timeline, and tabling at the MU Mall. Not only has it been a great experience starting this club with a sister, but all the support we have received from other members has been incredible too. It has truly shown that we live by our open motto “We live for each other”.

Jacqueline and I hope to share our love for country dancing as well as help others find a love for the dance style too. Ultimately, our goal is to build a country line dancing community here at ASU inclusive of all students no matter what their dance level is. Especially being a new club, we know we have a ways to go but we’re excited for the journey ahead of us. The first meeting for the Country Line Dancing Club will be Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 7:30 PM via Zoom. Although virtual, we encourage members to safely tune into the meeting with friends.
